:Canine and Feline Septicemia - Clinical Symptoms of Canine and Feline Septicemia

Septicemia is a systemic pathological process caused by the organism absorbing pathogenic bacteria and the products of their life activities and tissue decomposition products from local infected foci. There are systemic infections caused by purulent pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus hemolyticus, Escherichia coli, anaerobic bacteria and putrefactive bacteria, which cause abscesses, cellulitis and other purulent foci. Septicemia can also be caused by extensive burns, urinary tract infections, uterine infections, peritonitis and certain infectious diseases.

Clinically, it is divided into toxemia and pyemia. Toxemia is caused by toxins produced by pathogenic bacteria or pathological decomposition products of tissues being absorbed into the bloodstream. Pyemia is caused by bacterial emboli or infected thrombi entering the bloodstream.
Toxemia: The clinical manifestations are extremely depressed spirit, staggering gait, lying down, continuous elevated body temperature with a short intermittent period. Only before death does the body temperature drop. Loss of appetite, difficult breathing, fast and weak heartbeat. Sometimes there are petechiae and yellowish conjunctiva. Pyemia: Bacterial emboli or infected thrombi enter the bloodstream and various tissues and organs. Under suitable conditions, bacteria grow and reproduce, produce a large amount of toxins, and form metastatic abscesses in these tissues and organs, destroying the functions of local tissues or organs and presenting systemic symptoms.

Recommendations from Dr. Pet Oxygen:

  1. Oral administration of Weipuda amoxicillin powder for anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects can inhibit purulent bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. For dogs and cats: Take according to weight and instructions. Once a day for 3-5 consecutive days.
  2. Cefadroxil tablets (Pu'an Te) for antibacterial and anti-infective effects can inhibit bacteria that cause systemic infections such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus. For dogs and cats: 20 milligrams/kilogram body weight, once a day, continuously taken orally until 2-3 days after the symptoms subside.
  3. Hydrochlorothiazide tablets (Pu'an Te) help pets urinate diuretically, accelerate the excretion of inflammation and bacteria from the body, and effectively relieve symptoms such as difficult urination and urinary pain caused by urinary tract infections and peritonitis. For dogs and cats: 3-4 milligrams/kilogram body weight.
  4. IGY Antitec Force supplements immunoglobulin to help dogs and cats improve immunity and increase appetite. Once a day, 1 bottle each time for 5 consecutive days.
  5. Active probiotics (Pu'an Te) can help dogs and cats regulate intestinal disorders caused by long-term use or injection of antibiotics. Take according to weight for 7 consecutive days. Note that it should be taken 1-2 hours apart from antibiotics.
  6. Sick dogs and cats with severe symptoms should go to a pet hospital for treatment in time to avoid more serious infections.

Treatment plan for canine and feline septicemia:
Treatment plan for canine and feline septicemia:
Systemic infections must be treated with comprehensive local and systemic treatment measures as early as possible, otherwise the prognosis is poor.

  1. Local treatment: Promptly incise and drain the primary lesion, remove necrotic tissue, and thoroughly rinse and drain.
  2. Select antibiotics sensitive to drug sensitivity tests and inject intramuscularly or intravenously.
  3. Ampicillin, 20-30 milligrams/kilogram, orally, 2-3 times a day; 10-20 milligrams/kilogram intravenous drip/subcutaneous injection intramuscular injection, 2-3 times a day.
  4. Cefoxitin sodium, for dogs: 15-30 milligrams/kilogram, subcutaneous injection intramuscular injection/intravenous drip, 3-4 times a day; for cats: 22 milligrams/kilogram, intravenous drip, 3-4 times a day. Used for 4-6 weeks, or 1-2 weeks after inflammation disappears.
  5. Sumox (amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium suspension), for dogs/cats; 0.1 milliliters/kilogram, intramuscular injection/subcutaneous injection, once a day.
  6. Baytril (enrofloxacin) injection, 1 milliliter/kilogram, subcutaneous injection intramuscular injection, once a day.
  7. 5% sodium bicarbonate solution, 5-15 milliliters/kilogram, intravenous injection.
  8. Furosemide, 2-6 milligrams/kilogram, intramuscular injection or intravenous injection.
  9. Epinephrine, 0.1-0.5 milliliters/time, subcutaneous injection/intravenous drip intramuscular injection/intraventricular injection.
