Clinical Symptoms of Canine Coronavirus

2024-09-14  |   Hit:

Canine coronavirus infection is a disease caused by canine coronavirus that causes gastroenteritis symptoms in dogs. Sick dogs and virus-carrying dogs are the main sources of infection for this disease. The disease spreads rapidly and can spread throughout the entire group within a few days. The incubation period of natural cases is 1 to 3 days. Sick dogs are lethargic, weak, and anorexic. At first, continuous vomiting for several days can be seen, and then diarrhea begins. The feces are porridge-like or watery, yellow-green or orange-red, foul-smelling, and mixed with varying amounts of mucus. Occasionally, a small amount of blood can be seen in the feces. Clinically, it is difficult to distinguish it from canine parvovirus. It's just that this disease has a longer infection time and is intermittent and can recur. The white blood cell count is slightly reduced and usually recovery can occur within 7 to 10 days.

Clinical Symptoms of Canine Coronavirus

Recommendations:

  1. Quickly isolate sick dogs to avoid contact between sick dogs and healthy dogs and prevent the spread of the virus.
  2. Use glutaraldehyde and decylmethyl ammonium bromide solution to disinfect the home. It can kill parvovirus, canine distemper, coronavirus, herpes virus, etc., creating a sterile environment for dogs and promoting physical recovery. When sick dogs go out to defecate, it can be sprayed on the dog's urine and the residue after cleaning up feces.
  3. Velik bismuth subcarbonate tablets (Pu'an Te) repair intestinal mucosa and quickly stop diarrhea. Once a day, no more than 4 tablets at a time.
  4. Special anti-vomiting for dogs and cats - Puxiding (Pu'an Te) neutralizes gastric acid, relieves pain and vomiting, and repairs intestinal damage. Three times a day for 28 consecutive days.
  5. Weipuda amoxicillin powder, a broad-spectrum antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drug for pets, effectively prevents secondary infections. Once a day for 3 to 5 consecutive days.
  6. Pet electrolyte concentrated solution (Pu'an Te) supplements glucose and electrolytes for nutritional supplementation after diarrhea and vomiting to avoid dehydration. For cats: 50 milliliters/kilogram. For dogs: take according to breed and weight and take it orally freely for 2 to 5 days.
  7. IGY Antite Force supplements nutrition, enhances immunity, and improves the antiviral ability of dogs. Once a day for 5 days, 1 bottle each time.
  8. Active probiotics (Pu'an Te) are used to regulate the stomach and intestines, enhance intestinal immunity, and relieve gastrointestinal disorders caused by long-term use of antibiotics in dogs. Take according to weight for 7 consecutive days.

Treatment plan for canine coronavirus:
The treatment principle is symptomatic treatment and prevention of secondary infections.
To prevent secondary infections and antibacterial:

  1. Ampicillin, for dogs: 20-30 milligrams/kilogram, orally, 2 to 3 times a day; 10-20 milligrams/kilogram, intravenous drip/subcutaneous injection intramuscular injection, 2 to 3 times a day.
  2. Cefazolin sodium, for dogs: 15-30 milligrams/kilogram, intravenous drip intramuscular injection, 3 to 4 times a day.
  3. Sumox (amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium suspension), for dogs/cats: 0.1 milliliters/kilogram, intramuscular injection/subcutaneous injection, once a day.
  4. Baytril (enrofloxacin) injection, 1 milliliter/kilogram, subcutaneous injection intramuscular injection, once a day.
  5. Compound sulfamethoxazole, for dogs: 15 milligrams/kilogram, orally/subcutaneously, twice a day.
    Antiemetic:
  6. Metoclopramide, for dogs: 0.2-0.5 milligrams/kilogram, orally/subcutaneously, 3 to 4 times a day, or 0.01-0.08 milligrams/(kilogram·hour), intravenous drip.
  7. Omeprazole, for dogs: 0.5-1.5 milligrams/kilogram, intravenous injection/subcutaneous injection/orally, once a day, for up to 8 weeks.
    Antidiarrheal:
  8. Smecta, for dogs: 250-500 milligrams/kilogram, orally.
  9. Weidikang, for dogs: 0.02-0.08 grams/kilogram, orally, twice a day for 2 to 4 days.
Rehydration and enhance the body's resistance:
  10. Lactated Ringer's solution, 5% glucose, ATP, coenzyme A, vitamin C, etc. are used to supplement body fluids.
    Gastrointestinal mucosa protection:
  11. Sucralfate, for dogs: 0.5-1 gram/25 kilograms, orally, 2 to 4 times a day.
