Esophagitis is inflammation of the superficial and deep layers of the esophageal mucosa. The main clinical symptoms are loss of appetite, difficulty swallowing, excessive salivation and vomiting. In case of extensive necrotic lesions, severe retching or vomiting may occur.
Esophagitis in dogs and cats.
Treatment plan:
The treatment principle is mainly to remove the cause, reduce inflammation and strengthen nutrition.
[Prescription 1] Remove factors that stimulate the esophageal mucosa. In case of acute inflammation caused by accidental ingestion of corrosive substances and gastroesophageal reflux, in order to relieve pain, local anesthetics such as lidocaine can be taken orally, and at the same time, the esophagus can be repeatedly rinsed with antibiotic aqueous solution.
[Prescription 2] Sucralfate, for dogs: 0.5-1 gram/25 kilograms, orally, 2-4 times a day; for cats: 250-500 milligrams, orally, 2-3 times a day.
[Prescription 3] Amoxicillin, for dogs: 10-20 milligrams/kilogram, orally, 2-3 times a day for 5 days; 5-10 milligrams/kilogram, subcutaneous injection/intravenous drip intramuscular injection, 2-3 times a day for 5 days.
[Prescription 4] Sumox (amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium suspension), for dogs/cats: 0.1 milliliters/kilogram, intramuscular injection/subcutaneous injection, once a day.
[Prescription 5] Cefotaxime sodium, for dogs: 20-40 milligrams/kilogram, intravenous drip intramuscular injection/subcutaneous injection, 3-4 times a day.
[Prescription 6] Atropine sulfate, for dogs: 0.02-0.04 milligrams/kilogram, subcutaneous injection, as directed by a doctor.
